Phil Klausz passed away Friday at the age of 77 at his residence. To many people this is just another obituary in the newspaper. But, let me tell you about my friend. Phil served the Township on the zoning board for over 35 years. During that time, he was our chairman for 15 of those years. Phil was a community minded person always willing to help to make life a little better for someone else. In June of 2018, Phil and his wife Connie were returning from a meeting in Gibsonburg and were in an accident. Phil was seriously injured, but Connie did not survive. Phil’s life was changed both emotionally and physically forever. Upon Phil’s recovery, he started the Connie Joy Memorial at the Township. He would provide candy for all events for kids in the Township. This fund will be continued thanks to the Klausz family.
Phil was called on again to help the Township by serving as a Trustee for Ballville. He served for seven months before he had to resign. The physical pain from the accident was so severe, he could not finish his term.
You might say Phil’s final farewell to the Township was our Bicentennial which was celebrated on October 1, 2022, just 6 days before Phil’s passing. The finale of our festivities was an amazing firework display. I have had more complements on the fireworks with people saying they were second to none. I hope you were able to enjoy them too. This was Phil’s present to Ballville, sponsoring the whole event.
Phil enjoyed making life a little better for everyone. He is now with his best friend and wife, Connie making heaven a better place to be. God Bless you my friend.
